DAYTONA BEACH, FL (April 14, 2011) – With the assistance of the National Science Foundation PRISM (Photovoltaic and Renewable Integration to STEM Modules) Grant, the Center for Community and Professional Education at Daytona State College will host the Renewable Energy Summer Institute to provide affordable training in two renewable energy courses.
“Introduction to Photo-Voltaic Systems,” is a five-day, North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners Certificate of Knowledge preparation course. The registration fee is $100 - typically this course costs $1,250 per participant and is being discounted significantly due to the support of the National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education program.
WHAT: Introduction to Solar PV Installation
WHEN: May 23 - 27 (Monday – Friday), from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Advanced Technology College, 1770 Technology Blvd., Daytona Beach
This intensive five-day course provides: hands-on installation experience, NEC codes and safety, theory of Photo-Voltaic Electricity, fundamentals of Solar Energy and Photo-Voltaic Systems, mechanical design, as well as performance analysis and troubleshooting. During this workshop participants will learn the basics of solar installation - solar technology, including Photo-Voltaic. In addition the course provides information about tax incentives, sales and marketing, getting into the solar electric business, products and systems review, key components, mounting hardware, grounding, site design and construction analysis, inspector guidelines, NABCEP study guide, safety, pre-engineering kits, hands-on installation demonstration, prospects presentation, and steps for success.
“Introduction to Solar Thermal (Hot-Water) Systems,” is a four-day course for experienced solar contractors, or plumbing and heating experts with little solar knowledge. The registration fee is $100 - typically this course costs $750 per participant and is being discounted significantly due to the support of the National Science Foundation Advanced Technology Education program.

WHEN: May 31 – June 3 (Tuesday – Friday), from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Advanced Technology College, 1770 Technology Blvd., Daytona Beach
“Solar thermal“ means liquid is heated by the sun’s rays to generate hot water and is the most cost-effective and efficiently renewable energy source. This three-day course teaches the basics of solar thermal technology. Receive an introduction to solar thermal systems along with hands-on system building experience; learn about safety and installation issues, solar radiation, components and issues of solar hot water, systems design, pool heating, wind and mounting issues, cost benefits, and system sizing.
